Many of us must now accept that ticks are part of our lives when enjoying the outdoors. 

By now most people are aware that in May, June, and July ticks are out in force and looking for hosts to feed on. But the reality is that you are at risk of a tick bite almost year-round, depending on your climate. 

According to the newly released report from the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the world's ecosystems are in dire danger. Species extinction rates are accelerating and grave impacts around the world are now likely.

The principles of organic lawn management can be defined as a systems approach. It’s more than just a product-driven program and has become the standard in conventional turfgrass management. As their food sources becomes more and more scarce they will begin to eat the landscaping of many residential and commercial properties. Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) is a rare but serious mosquito-borne disease caused by a virus transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Since the virus was first identified in Massachusetts in 1938, over 115 cases have been reported in the state. The most recent significant outbreak began in 2019, with 12 human cases resulting in six deaths. This outbreak continued into 2020, with five additional cases and one death. On August 16, 2024, officials announced the first human case of EEE in Massachusetts since 2020. It is important to take proper precautions to prevent mosquito bites and reduce the risk of EEE infection. 

At Pure Solutions we see a wide array of issues when consulting on organic lawn care. One topic that many of our customers commonly share is dealing with grubs. Lawn grubs are a nuisance that many homeowners must deal with each summer. They appear almost out of nowhere and cause a painful amount of destruction to lawns. The majority of the time grub worms are either European Chafer or Japanese Beetle larvae.

In New England bees have always been a part of our Eco-system, and they play a crucial role in the food we eat every day.  It is estimated that we depend on pollinators for roughly one-third of the food in the world today. There is no debate about the importance of honeybees and pollinators in our local ecosystems. Since the late 1990's beekeepers around the world have reported high rates of decline in honeybee populations. The alarming decline in populations has sparked the now infamous ‘Save the Bees’ movement.
